Entries sought for annual Creativity is Timeless art contest

Last year, more than 300 people viewed art submitted by 54 artists who call Holmes and surrounding areas home as part of the Creativity is Timeless event put together by Walnut Hills in Walnut Creek. Artwork ranged from quilts and wall hangings, paintings and drawings, and photography to woodworking, soft crafts, hard crafts, and miscellaneous arts and crafts.

The 2017 Best of Show Award was presented to Bill Jennings of Walnut Creek for his woodworking entry titled “The Last Supper.” The 2017 People’s Choice Award, which was determined by votes from visitors to the exhibit, was also awarded to Jennings for his intarsia woodworking.

The 2016 Best of Show Award was presented to Martha Schrock of Millersburg for her quilt entry titled “Appliqué Birds.” The 2016 People’s Choice Award, which was determined by votes from visitors to the exhibit, was also awarded to Schrock for her beautiful quilt.

In 2015, the Best of Show Award was presented to Rachel H. Kaufmann of Berlin for her woodworking entry titled “Whimsical House.” The People’s Choice Award was given to Larry Neal of Walnut Creek for his paper mache entry titled “Birthplace of Christ.”

And now the search is on for the 2018 entries from which the Best of Show winner will be selected from.

Entry forms are available for the eighth annual event open to amateur artists who live in Holmes County or within a two-mile radius of the county line. This area includes places like Baltic and Sugarcreek.

It should be noted that art must have been completed when the artist was age 55 or older. Artists are encouraged to submit up to three entries as part of the contest. There is no fee to participate. Specific information such as categories and general contest guidelines are included on the entry form. One form per submission is required.
