The Tuscarawas County Public Library System will host its annual 5K on Saturday, April 14, at 10 a.m. The Doughnut Fun Run Challenge will have participants start at the Main Library, located at 121 Fair Avenue in New Philadelphia, run to Dough Co. Doughnuts and Coffee, located at 801 Boulevard in Dover, to eat six glazed donuts, and run back to the library — all within 45 minutes.
“The idea for the Doughnut Fun Run Challenge came from a nationally recognized and popular charity race,” said Public Relations Associate Molly Calhoun. “The committee is excited to partner with Dough Co. to bring this Fun Run Challenge to Tuscarawas County.”
Calhoun said participants will have the ability to opt out of the doughnut portion and run a traditional 5K if preferred.
To register, stop by one of the County Library’s five locations (Main Library, Bolivar, Strasburg, Sugarcreek, or Tuscarawas) to complete and turn in a registration form.
The form is also available on the library’s website at www.tusclibrary.org.
Early registration goes until March 17 with fees of $25 for adults and $15 for kids (Grades K- Age 17). Race day registration fees are $30 for adults and $20 for kids (Grades K-Age 17).
Proceeds from this year’s Doughnut Fun Run Challenge will benefit the library system’s programming fund, according to Director Michelle McMorrow Ramsell, “The past three years, the library’s 5K has been a fun race for all ages and levels of fitness,” said Calhoun. “We think this year’s Doughnut Fun Run Challenge will prove to be the same.”
Runners will receive goodie bags the day of the race, and those who register before March 17 will also receive a t-shirt. Awards will be given to the top three men, women and children who participate in the challenge. Only runners registered as challengers will be eligible for awards.
